Final weekend of the World Ski & Snowboard Festival!
April 17, 2015
We’ve put together an itinerary for a festival long weekend of fun!
Friday April 17th
Kick start your weekend and get pumped for some riding at the Shred Show Boarderstyle competition (a boardercross-style race with slopestyle features). The event will see heats of four riders competing head-to-head for a total of $6,500 in prize money. Warm up begins at 10am and the main event runs from 11am – 3pm. You can register to compete in the event for free here, or simply show up at the Blackcomb Nintendo Terrain Park to watch the competition.
After a day on the slopes, head to the main stage at Skier’s Plaza to check out the group Fort Knox Five. They combine live instrumentals with funky electric beats to create a unique sound that moves from funk to reggae and hip-hop. They’ll be putting on a free performance from 4 – 5:30pm, just at the right time to grab some après at the Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub or the patio at the Longhorn Saloon & Grill, both overlooking Skier’s Plaza.
Saturday April 18th
Head over to Whistler Mountain on Saturday morning to try out some top-quality demo gear. Brands like Atomic, Gnu, Head, Rossignol, Roxy and Salomon are giving skiers and boarders the chance to snow-test their best equipment from outside the Roundhouse Lodge from 9am – 2pm.
Next, take in some of the local mountainside culture at State of the ART and enjoy various works of art and photography. The exhibit is free to attend and the gallery is open every day.
Celebrate the end of Whistler’s ski season in style with Autoerotique, Etc! Etc! and Torro Torro at the aptly name event: The End. The party starts at 10pm at the Whistler Conference Centre and doesn’t stop until 4am. Tickets are $35 per person for this 19+ event and can be purchased here.
Sunday April 19th
The whole family is invited to join in on some Mascot Mayhem. Join Big Air Bear and his mascot friends in the Village Square from 12:30 – 2pm to celebrate Big Air Bear’s 13th birthday. The party is sure to bring some smiles with free games and birthday cake.
With so much happening over the festival, you’ll want a comfortable place to spend the night. At Whistler Platinum, we have a large collection of chalet rentals available to act as your home away from home while you’re in Whistler. Our reservations team can also help arrange any ski passes and festival tickets you may need for your vacation.
